[...] Mallory tried out Jing the other day to explain how to accomplish a task within one of our internal applications. It’s a really nice way to create a ‘how-to’ video by capturing screens from your desktop and recording audio. It’s easy to share the video using the free online storage, or create a swf file for email/IM. The access to the application is different too - it’s a glowing orb that sits discreetly on the edge of your desktop.
Hi Geof,

As part of my VanSPUG presentation, we made available a few downloads here:
http://www.vanspug.com/docs/20081112

There's a SharePointUEResources PDF which contains links to online resources dealing with SharePoint user experience and branding.

I personally haven't found a "definitive guide" in paper format yet, but have found the online resources immensely helpful in pointing me in the right direction.

For those of us just starting out in design and UX for WSS/MOSS 2007, is there a definitive book (or books) that you would recommend? I've been to Amazon and Chapters, but get lost in a sea of publications that don't touch on the bullet points listed above; exactly the ones most important to me.

Hey Kathleen,
Glad to hear that you are enjoying the V&A. I was just there a few weeks ago myself. I was excited to go see the V&A after the "renovation". Back when I lived there 8 years ago, it was announced that Libeskind was going to create a "Spiral extension". http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/326091.stm

After seeing the Jewish Museum in Berlin, by Libeskind and being blown away by such an amazing building, I was curious to see the V&A, but alas, the project never went through. I was told by a lovely old gentleman at reception, that the museum never managed to gather all the necessary funds and thus was abandoned.

Regardless of the fact, there is enough material in the V&A to keep busy. I'm off to India in January, so I headed to the India section of the museum which is relatively small, but I still managed to spend over an hour in that small exhibit. Maybe it's because of my fascination with India at the moment. If you are interested and if it's still on, the Ramayana exhibit at the National Library is absolutely fascinating.
