I’m excited to be attending the Web Directions North conference this week! There are a wide variety of topics, and the roster is top-notch. Of course, I’m also stoked about the two days of skiing in Whistler :)
Agile application development has been a big topic of discussion at Habañero lately, so I’m very interested to hear Kelly Goto speak about The Iterative App. It’s always useful to see how other people work, the tools and techniques they employ, and how they manage the entire process. I hope to discover a few gems to bring back with me.
The session with Paul Hammond and George Oates, Web Apps 2, should add more food for thought, as they will be discussing the collaboration process between front- and back-end developers. Their experiences with Flickr and Yahoo! will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience. I’m planning on putting together a little presentation for the H! crew when I return, which I hope will create some lively discussion.
I will admit to my designer bias, and say that I am most keen on meeting the artists: Cameron Moll, Dave Shea, Veerle Pieters, Douglas Bowman … need I say more? Though much of my work involves collaborating, client communications, and coding, my favourite work is design. There’s nothing like being knee deep in wire frames with only you, your tools, and a little inspiration to start designing.
It’s not often you get to look over someone’s shoulder and see how they work, and this is a grand opportunity to learn. Fingers crossed for a fruitful conference!
